Uzbekistan is one of the oldest cultural regions in the world. The Lapis Lazuli Road, a trade network along which caravans transported precious gemstones such as lapis lazuli and rubies to China and Europe, emerged here even before the Common Era. Later, this developed into the famous "Great Silk Road," one of the most important trade routes in world history. Chinese silk and porcelain, the famous Samarkand tissue paper, intricately woven adras and satin fabrics, and other rare goods reached Europe via these routes. Magnificent cities emerged along these trade routes that are still considered cultural gems of Central Asia: Samarkand, Bukhara, Khiva, Shakhrisabz, Tashkent, Termez, Kokand, and Margilan. But Uzbekistan is not only a land of impressive history and architecture – it is also a source of unique literature. Uzbek literature is as diverse and fascinating as the country itself. It reflects the turbulent history of Uzbekistan, which has been shaped by numerous conquerors over the course of almost 3,000 years. These diverse influences are evident in its art, culture, traditions, and customs. Unfortunately, Uzbek literature is still largely unknown in German-speaking countries. On my website, I would like to introduce you to the works of well-known Uzbek writers.
